Please join Jerry Fitts and friends on a new winter adventure – Bulgaria!

Bansko (www.banskoski.com or www.bulgariaski.com/bansko or www.banskobg.org) is Bulgaria’s #1 ski resort, with the most modern lifts, the best snow record, and the longest ski season.  While the resort is only 10 years old, the town is a charming mix of historical century old buildings and newer structures.  The town center is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the clock tower which was built in 1850, awakens everyone with 15 minutes of chimes each morning. The town sits at the base of the majestic Pirin Mountains, and the ski area is located above the town, accessible by a new 25-minute gondola ride.

The two ski centers, Chalin Valog and Shilgarnika, offer a total of 44 miles of marked runs, vertical drops up to 2500 feet, and a nice mix of 30% beginner, 45% intermediate and 25% advanced terrain. Off-piste skiing is available, and most slopes are north-facing. Other outdoor activities include para-skiing (riding tandem with a paraglider), snowmobile rentals, and an outdoor ice skating rink.  The town offers many options for après-ski and nightlife, including traditional taverns with live folk music, local cafés, bars, discos, and nightclubs that have no closing time.

We will spend a week at the 4-star Hotel Tanne (www.hotel-tanne.com), a Bulgarian-German hotel built entirely of stone and wood.  From the hotel, it is a 10-minute walk to the center of town, and a short walk or bus ride to the gondola station.  The hotel has 33 rooms, all with satellite-TV, telephone, mini bar, safe and hair dryer.  Hotel amenities include a restaurant, breakfast room, bar, and wellness center with indoor pool, sauna, eucalyptus steam room, and fitness room.

From Bansko, we will travel to Sofia (www.sofia-life.com), Bulgaria’s ancient capital city, for a two-night stay.   Before checking in to the hotel, we will enjoy a two-hour bus tour of the city with an English-speaking guide.  Historical sites and cultural attractions abound, as Sofia’s history dates back seven thousand years.  Our home will be the luxurious 5-star Hotel Anel (www.hotelanel.com), located in the heart of the city.  This elegant hotel showcases one of the largest and most extensive Bulgarian art collections, in addition to offering a restaurant, lobby bar, casino, gift shop, hair salon and wellness area with indoor pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub.

PRICING

Package prices are based on Tourist Class airfare on United Airlines and a minimum group size of 20 participants.  Should the group size fall between 15 and 19 people, the package price will increase by $67 per person.  Package prices are subject to change due to fuel surcharges, airport tax increases, currency fluctuation, general tariff increases, or for any reason beyond the control of the tour operator.  Tour is priced on current exchange rates.  Tour price includes reasonable charges for administration and planning of tour.  All prices reflect a discount for cash/check payment.  Visa, MasterCard and American Express rates are 4% higher than cash discount rates.

SINGLE SUPPLEMENT

A limited number of single occupancy rooms are available.  Add $305 to package price for a single room throughout the tour.

LAND ONLY

Deduct $875 (airfare credit and fuel surcharge) from the package price.  You are welcome to make your own air arrangements or use frequent flyer miles.  It is your responsibility to coordinate your flight times with the rest of the group, so that you can join the transfers to and from the hotels.

EXCHANGE RATE INFORMATION – IMPORTANT!

Package price was calculated based on an exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar (USD) and the Euro (EUR).  The rate used for calculations was
USD $1.35 = EURO 1.00.  This exchange rate is not guaranteed and final package price may change if the USD strengthens or weakens.

AIRLINE FUEL SURCHARGES AND TAXES – IMPORTANT!

The package price includes a fuel surcharge imposed by United Airlines of $320 per person.  Air taxes are NOT included and are currently $142 per person.  Fuel surcharges and air taxes are subject to change until tickets are issued approximately one month before departure.  Your final invoice will reflect the current fuel surcharge and taxes.

DEVIATIONS AND EXTENSIONS

Deviations and extensions are allowed on a first-come, first-served basis.  The airline allows a maximum of 20% of the group to deviate.  In addition to any airfare increases/fees and extra land charges, a deviation fee of $100 per person will be charged. Any unused portions of original package are non-refundable.  Deviation and extension requests should be submitted as soon as possible and no later than December 22, 1010.  Once deviation itinerary has been confirmed, any subsequent changes will each be charged a $50 fee, plus any additional air and land costs.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS

All cancellations must be received in writing.  All payments are non-refundable unless refunds can be negotiated with hotels and airlines.  Tickets will be issued on January 12, 2011.  Once ticketed, name changes are not allowed.  Tickets may be refunded prior to departure for a fee of $350.
